Privacy Policy
wineryIQ lives on your iPhone and Apple Watch. What you put into it stays on your devices, nothing about you is sent to us, and we run no servers that see your data.
Nearly OK Software · In effect from 27 October 2026
What the app keeps, and where
- Your cellar. The photographs you take of labels, the bottles you type in, your ratings, notes, prices, shelves, tastings and wine lists are stored on your iPhone, in the app's own storage. Nothing in it is uploaded to us.
- Taste Match. Your answers to the five taste questions, the calls the app makes about wines, and your verdicts on them are kept on your iPhone so the app can learn from them. A record of each label reading — which reader placed it and what you corrected — is kept there too. None of it is sent to us.
- Favorites, visited wineries and wineries you add. These are kept in your own iCloud account, through Apple's key-value storage, so that your other devices see them. Apple's iCloud terms apply; we cannot read them.
- Location. If you allow it, the app uses your location to show wineries near you, and can remember where a bottle was photographed or a wine list was chosen from. That is stored on your iPhone and can be turned off in Settings › Insights › Remember Where. It is never sent to us.
- Your age. The app asks once whether you are of legal drinking age, or takes the answer from the age range your Apple Account declares, when that is available. The answer is kept on the device and nowhere else.
- Your Apple Watch receives a copy of what your iPhone knows over Apple's own connection between the two, and sends back only the thumbs and glasses you tap and, for Near Me, the watch's location, so the iPhone can answer.
What leaves your iPhone
- Reading a label. On an iPhone with Apple Intelligence, labels are read on the device. When the phone cannot place a label, and Use Apple's Private Cloud for Hard Labels is on in Settings › Units, the label is sent to Apple's Private Cloud Compute under Apple's privacy terms; we do not see it. That switch is on unless you turn it off.
- Adding a winery. When you add a winery the catalogue lacks, the name you typed is put to Apple Intelligence, on the device or in Private Cloud Compute under the same switch, to fill in the form. If it names a website, the app fetches that site once to confirm it and to take the picture the winery chose for itself.
- Winery pictures and maps. The app downloads winery photographs, logos and map imagery from the internet like any app that shows pictures and maps: from a content network (jsDelivr), Wikimedia, Clearbit's logo service and Apple Maps. Those hosts see your IP address as any web request shows it; we receive nothing.
- Siri. What you say to Siri is handled by Apple under Apple's terms. wineryIQ answers on the device.
- Posting a bottle. If you connect a Mastodon account, what you choose to post goes to that Mastodon server under its own terms. Your sign-in is kept in your iPhone's keychain. Nothing is posted unless you press Post.
- Sharing a bottle. Share a Bottle sends a file to another person by AirDrop, Messages or Mail, through Apple's sharing, when you choose to.
What we do not do
- We run no account system and no servers that receive your data.
- We collect no analytics, no advertising identifiers and no usage tracking, and the app contains no third-party analytics or advertising code.
- We do not sell, share or receive your data.
Your data is yours
Export My Data, in Settings, saves everything the app holds about you as one archive you can open in any spreadsheet; the file is made on your device and nothing is uploaded. Restore from a Backup puts it back. Reset wineryIQ erases everything on the device, and in your iCloud key-value storage, after showing you what will go. Since we hold nothing about you, there is nothing for you to ask us to delete; if you have written to us, say so and we will delete the correspondence.
Our website
If you sign up as a test pilot on nearlyok.com, we keep the name and email address you give us for the beta and nothing else, and delete them when you ask or when the beta ends. If you write to us, we keep the correspondence so we can answer.
Age
wineryIQ is about wine and is intended for people of legal drinking age in their country. It is not directed at children.
